Within the framework of traditional school education in the country, only a limited number of students who sit for the GCE Advanced Level Examination and obtain the highest Z-score in any stream other than Technology and Aesthetics will have the opportunity to enter the State University system of Sri Lanka and obtain a LL.B. It takes 4 years to complete the degree and then you can take the oaths as a lawyer in the Supreme Court after passing the final year examination of the Law College and completing the 6 month apprenticeship.
About 130% of the candidates who pass the entrance examination held annually will be recruited to complete this degree after completing a four year study period, passing all the examinations of the Sri Lanka Law College and completing a six month apprenticeship. The L.L.B degree can also be obtained through several private institutions in Sri Lanka affiliated to foreign universities. It takes three years to complete the degree and then to pass all the examinations of the Sri Lanka Law College and also to complete a six month internship.
